Shipment Movements

When a Shipment is being tracked and managed in TVA via automated devices and sensors, the position of the Shipment may be updated automatically. These position updates help in tracking the progress a Shipment is making from source to destination, and to identify events that are troublesome such as going off course or into an unauthorized area.

An example of a Shipment movement map showing the most recent position and event can be seen below.

In this map view, the final position of the Shipment can be seen and the associated event of a Shipment arrival workflow update was triggered based on the Shipment arriving at the destination.

Shipment movements is a historical view of all positions reported by a tracking device for a shipment, and is filtered for most recent movement events for simplifying the movement track. If desired, the movement map may be adjusted to show additional historical movements, back through to the start of the Shipment progression.

A Shipment's movement history is tied to the Shipment itself, and the device reporting the position may change over time without impacting the historical record. A Shipment's position may also be updated by passive or active tags, such as RFID tags or BLE Beacons, without using a more advanced GPS tracking device. Conversely, multiple mechanisms may be used concurrently to provide coverage for a Shipment outside with a good quality GPS signal, and moving inside where the signal is degraded and interior positioning technologies may be used instead.
