Impinj RFID Reader Setup
To use an Impinj RFID reader with TVA, you must start with creating the relevant asset within the system, which is used to define reader location, associations, and other operational parameters. To do this create a new item master record for an Impinj reader as a serialized piece of equipment, and then create the reader as an asset.
When creating the asset, make sure to use the device MAC address as the asset identifier, as TVA uses this device information when matching Impinj reader reports for processing.
An Impinj reader must also use an authorization token to gain access to publish information from the reader to TVA, and this should be created under the administration menu.
With the asset created and an authorization token available, the reader itself should be configured. To do this, login to the Impinj Speedway Connect configuration interface, as TVA requires the Speedway Connect software to send data from the reader to TVA itself. Within Speedway connect, the reader configuration should be set with the following key attributes:
- Start Trigger - Immediate
- Output Data Format - JSON
- Antenna Port - Checked
- Timestamp - Checked
- Peak RSSI - Checked
- TID - Checked
- Heartbeat - Checked
- Period (Heartbeat) - 60 (Seconds)
For the connection to TVA, the Output Connection will be configured:
- Verify Peer - Unchecked
- Verify Server Host - Unchecked
- HTTP Post - Checked
- Reader Name - Descriptive Name Information Provided
- URL - https://tva.tacticaledge.us/services/impinj?token=AUTHTOKEN (or other URL as provided)
- Update Interval - 60 (Seconds)
Report filtering should also be enabled under the Filtering Software section:
- Enabled - Checked
- Read Window - 300 (Seconds)
- Filter Field - EPC
Note, all of the settings are important and please ensure that everything is configured properly. If there is any question, the TVA support team is happy to engage and provide any answers or clarification.
Report filtering, for example, will greatly reduce the bandwidth used by the RFID readers and will optimize the reporting of the devices. Although TVA will mitigate unfiltered reports, the device will operate with unnecessarily high data transmissions and overhead unless properly configured.
With these settings, the reader will need the configuration applied at the top of the screen, and then TVA can be checked after a minute or two to see if there is any Activity report information on the asset. If no Activity is seen, double check the reader configuration, connectivity, and other parameters.
