Shipment Devices
Shipments may have an active smart device assigned to provide tracking, sensor, and other real-time data to the Shipment. This association is quick to make, and can be used to evaluate the safety, security, and position of the shipment at all times.
Smart devices, such as GPS trackers, are valuable in ensuring that cargo is properly tracked and secured, and when shipping through various third-party logistics (3PL) companies or multi-modal configurations, the trackers provide visibility through all modes of transit without any requirements on the transportation partners.
To assign a device, it must first be registered and active with your TVA account. Contact the TVA support team to ensure that the devices are active and reporting if there is any question.
On the shipment details page, users with proper permission will see an ACTION button at the bottom of the information. Simply click this button and select the option to Manage Shipment Devices. This option will open a dialog where you can type in the device identifier, or scan via a connected barcode scanner.
This device selection dialog is shown below.
When the desired device is found, it may be selected and assigned. Once this is completed, any position updates and sensor data reported by the device are automatically applied to this shipment.
Note that device assignments are not permanant, and the device may be used with different shipments, assets, and vehicles. The device may be unassigned at any time, and an alternate device assigned if required.
When a shipment lifecycle is completed and a shipment is delivered, the device is automatically unassigned from the shipment for convienience. Optionally, the device may be unassigned and removed at any time.
