Shipment Tagging
In TVA, Shipments may be tagged to be tracked and automatically processed by a variety of tagging technologies. These include using RFID tags, Bluetooth (BLE) Beacons, NFC tags, and other types of items.
A Shipment tag differs from using smart Devices to track a Shipment, as the devices have a long-term state within the system and may be used for many different items, where tags are only permitted to be assigned to a single item within TVA.
A Shipment may have a device and one or more tags assigned at any give time, as each provide different but complimentary benefits to tracking and material accountability. If unsure what strategy may work best, please contact TVA Support for possible recommendations.
An example of assigning a new tag to a Shipment is shown below.
In this example, a user has selected to assign a new tag to a Shipment. The user must scan the tag for the identifier information, and must also select the type of tag being assigned. A user may use a barcode, RFID, or NFC scanner to read the tag identifier, and must use the dropdown menu to select the proper tag type.
TVA recommends using tags that are easily processed through various scanning technologies. Many RFID tags, for example, provide barcodes that make scanning the EPC quick and easy, and simplifies the tag assignment process.
TVA supports automatic printing and encoding of labels and tags for Shipments, and when an RFID supporting printer is connected, will automatically assign any RFID labels to a Shipment without any additional user interaction.
