Create A Shipment
In TVA, a Shipment is created to track material moving between locations, and has a clear workflow associated with it. This workflow is initiated when a Shipment is created, and follows through to a terminal event.
When creating a Shipment, TVA requires very few specifics to be submitted. A shipment may simply be created in an ad-hoc manner, or may be created with all necessary contact information, source and destination details, and a set of other delivery criteria.
The basic create shipment screen is shown below.
In this screen, the TVA is shown to require very little information, and will even automatically generate a tracking identifier for the new Shipment. A user may supply other identifiers if there is a need to cross-reference against other systems, and may supply a source and destination address. When entering addresses, TVA will automatically search pre-existing locations created in the system to simply the data entry process, and to ensure consistency in delivery.
Shipment customers and point of contacts may be provided, although these are not mandatory, and the shipment departure and delivery requirements may also be entered. With these, a user may choose to disable automatic shipment delivery when tracking shipments to a destination. Given that TVA can use device-tracked shipments to identify the arrival at a destination, the system allows a user to force the manual delivery of a Shipment.
Note that creating a Shipment does not immediately support identifying the manifest or cargo on the shipment, as this information may be added after the initial creation.
