Introduction to Devices
Devices are integrated smart components that send data to the TVA system to support workflows, automatic tracking, and other functions. A device can take many forms, and TVA uses the device information without any direct user interaction, where it will process the information and respond accordingly. When processing device information, TVA may update the position of an item, may raise an alert based on location or sensor values, or may move a workflow to the next step.
Device information is received by TVA by existing interfaces, where the system has out of the box support for many different types of manufacturers and devices. TVA also has a series of open APIs available for custom device implementations, based on customer requirements. The integrations section provides additional information on incorporating device and reader data directly into TVA.
TVA does require that devices send data to the system over secured channels, and is able to work with other parties to ensure that data in transit is encrypted and secure, and all device input is validated by TVA prior to being processed in the system.
Depending on the device and source vendor, TVA may require assigning the TVA to a particular customer as part of the provisioning process. The TVA support team is ready to discuss the best practices for integrating supported or new devices into the platform.
This section includes additional background on device usage within TVA, the lifecycle for device support, and various tips in maintaining and managing devices that send data to TVA.
