Asset Tags
Item tags may be assigned to Assets to aid in item identification, processing, and tracking for material as it moves through supply chain and custody activities. Asset tags are useful for identifying material that moves through facilities, ports, cross-dock warehouse, and other locations, and may be used to trigger workflows or raise alerts on improper movements.
A tag on an asset may be as simple as a passive RFID tag fastened to the item permanently or temporarily, or may be a transmitting device such as a BLE Beacon to provide better range and read rates. Different tagging technologies have various pros and cons, and this is not the focus of this article.
Asset tagging allows new tags to be assigned at any point in time, and for existing tags to be removed if required. Additionally, the tag management screen, shown below, shows details on last tag read and details about the recent tag read events.
In this example, there is an RFID tag and a BLE Beacon assigned to this asset. Both have been created recently, and neither has been seen by infrastructure yet. This is not unusual when provisioning new items into the system.
To compare this against a different Asset, the asset tag details shown below have had many reads of the beacon assigned, which is useful to verify the functioning of the tag and to understand when and where the tag is processed.
This beacon tag details shows a range of read timestamps, and also provides the option to delete the tag, allowing it to be reused on different assets or items within TVA.
